About Us

Our History

We are a branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society international organization.  RSCDS has branches around the world and their mission is 'Growing a vibrant worldwide community of Scottish Dance and Music'.

Our Ottawa Branch was founded in 1966 and has been going strong ever since!  Besides offering classes we also participate in community events to demonstrate our dance and encourage people to join us.

Our Dance

Scottish Country Dancing is the social dancing of Scotland dating back to the 16th Century and consists of Reels, Jigs, Hornpipes, and the uniquely Scottish Strathspeys. The music is lively and adds to the exhilaration of the dance. Dances are done in groups (or sets) of 6 or 8 dancers and you don’t need to bring your own partner to participate.

The dance provides both a physical and mental challenge as you learn the steps and patterns. The classes and dances are excellent social opportunities to make life long friends.  And most of all, it is fun!
